This entry or formulation may be investigational and may not correspond to an FDA-approved product; safety and efficacy may not have been established. Kairo lists it for identification and record-keeping only.
Overview
Product & regulatory status
Experimental in US wellness practice; the cited research does not establish an FDA-approved anti-aging indication.
Component research
Experimental work examined KE/EW dipeptides found within thymalin and their effects on gene expression. This does not validate the whole extract as a treatment. [1]
What the evidence shows
Long follow-up is not conclusive longevity evidence
A 2003 report followed 266 older people receiving thymus/pineal preparations or comparison care for six to eight years. Multiple treatment groups and insufficient abstract detail about allocation and blinding limit causal interpretation of reported mortality differences. [2]
COVID-19 findings need caution
A 2022 report compared basic care, tocilizumab and thymalin in severe COVID-19. It reported immune/clotting-marker changes, but its English and Russian abstracts give inconsistent mortality percentages. It cannot support a dependable survival estimate. [3]
What remains unknown
Independent replication with standardized extract composition, transparent randomization and complete safety follow-up is needed. Neither report demonstrates longer life in otherwise healthy users.
Safety
Safety reporting is incomplete
The older follow-up report cannot reliably establish rare or delayed harms for contemporary thymalin preparations. [2]
Extract identity matters
Results involving a particular polypeptide extract cannot automatically be applied to products sold under the same name with unverified composition. [1]
Understanding product quality
Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved finished products. Poor preparation can cause contamination or incorrect strength. A catalog entry or a research paper is not a quality assessment of your product. [4]
When to seek urgent help
Severe allergic symptoms such as trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, or fainting need immediate help. Call 911 or your local emergency number. This is general emergency information, not a complete list of risks for this compound. [5]
A starting point for discussion
This is not a complete list of adverse effects or interactions. Your health history, other medicines, and the exact formulation matter. Missing safety data is not evidence of safety.
Common questions
Is this the same as thymogen?
No. Thymalin is an extract; thymogen is a distinct dipeptide. Similar names do not imply equivalent contents or effects.
Does changing a gene marker prove rejuvenation?
No. Molecular changes need validation against patient outcomes in controlled clinical studies.
Questions for your clinician
Does the evidence match my condition and this exact product? What risks or interactions matter for me? How would we assess whether it is helping?
