Overview
Product & regulatory status
The studies here do not establish a treatment for human androgenetic alopecia.
Removing a signaling brake
PTD-DBM interferes with CXXC5 binding to Dishevelled, influencing Wnt/beta-catenin signaling. The pathway is a research target, not a guarantee of clinically meaningful hair growth. [1]
What the evidence shows
Hair-follicle research
A 2017 study examined CXXC5 in human scalp tissue and hair-follicle cells, then tested disruption of its interaction with Dishevelled in mice. Reported regrowth and new follicle formation were experimental outcomes. [1]
Androgen-related model
A later study explored how DHT and prostaglandin D2 affected hair biology through CXXC5. PTD-DBM was studied in mouse models; this does not establish reversal of human pattern baldness. [2]
What remains unknown
Human benefit, durability, skin tolerability, and consequences of changing growth-related signaling need clinical evaluation.
Safety
Regrowth mechanisms need safety testing
Activating a pathway involved in tissue growth is not proof of safe long-term use. The cited experiments do not establish the safety of consumer preparations or combining them with procedures that disrupt skin. [2]
Experimental skin treatment
The hair-regrowth studies concern a specific peptide that disrupts the CXXC5–Dishevelled interaction in experimental models. They do not establish penetration, stability, or clinical effectiveness of a retail scalp serum. [1]
Understanding product quality
Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved finished products. Poor preparation can cause contamination or incorrect strength. A catalog entry or a research paper is not a quality assessment of your product. [3]
When to seek urgent help
Severe allergic symptoms such as trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, or fainting need immediate help. Call 911 or your local emergency number. This is general emergency information, not a complete list of risks for this compound. [4]
A starting point for discussion
This is not a complete list of adverse effects or interactions. Your health history, other medicines, and the exact formulation matter. Missing safety data is not evidence of safety.
Common questions
Does a study of human scalp cells mean there was a human treatment trial?
No. Cells or tissue obtained from people can be studied in the laboratory without anyone receiving the experimental treatment.
Questions for your clinician
Does the evidence match my condition and this exact product? What risks or interactions matter for me? How would we assess whether it is helping?
