Overview
Product & regulatory status
Research in one disease or route does not establish a general wellness indication.
What the evidence shows
A large respiratory-failure trial
TESICO randomized 471 patients in the aviptadil comparison for severe COVID-19 respiratory failure. The intravenous treatment did not demonstrate a clinical benefit supporting its use in that setting. [1]
Different inhaled study
A smaller randomized study of 80 hospitalized patients reported earlier discharge with inhaled aviptadil. Its route, population, size, and endpoints differed from TESICO, so the results are not interchangeable. [2]
What remains unknown
Neither study establishes benefits for general immune “reset,” nonspecific fatigue, or an unrelated intranasal product.
Safety
Blood-pressure effects
Intravenous aviptadil required close monitoring; hypotension was a recognized on-treatment concern. Intensive-care monitoring cannot be assumed for unsupervised use. [1]
Route-specific evidence
The cited studies used intravenous and inhaled preparations. They do not establish equivalent exposure or benefit from nasal sprays. [2]
Understanding product quality
Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved finished products. Poor preparation can cause contamination or incorrect strength. A catalog entry or a research paper is not a quality assessment of your product. [3]
When to seek urgent help
Severe allergic symptoms such as trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, or fainting need immediate help. Call 911 or your local emergency number. This is general emergency information, not a complete list of risks for this compound. [4]
A starting point for discussion
This is not a complete list of adverse effects or interactions. Your health history, other medicines, and the exact formulation matter. Missing safety data is not evidence of safety.
Common questions
Why do VIP studies appear to disagree?
Different disease severity, formulations, sample sizes, and endpoints can produce different findings. Consider those details before generalizing a result.
Questions for your clinician
Does the evidence match my condition and this exact product? What risks or interactions matter for me? How would we assess whether it is helping?
